Goodbye The Loves
We're sad to say goodbye to our old friends THE LOVES who play their retirement show tomorrow, Sun 13th February at The Lexington in London.
Without The Loves there would never have been The School, and I would not have become a promoter. It feels like part of me has died.
When I was in The Loves we played 4 John Peel sessions, including one from Peel Acres. We supported the Yeah Yeah Yeahs at The Garage, we played CMJ in New York, and we shared the stage with some awesome bands like Of Montreal, The Cribs and The Soft Boys.
Funfacts aside, the years I had in The Loves were some of the best of my life. Good times, good music and meeting some of the nicest people on the planet.
Simon Love helped me write some early songs for The School - he composed most of 'All I Wanna Do' when I only had a rough tune, he wrote the heart-wrenching lyrics for 'I Want You Back' and verses for recently released track 'Tell Me'. He gave me the confidence to record our early demos and convinced me that our music was worth making.
If you're not familiar with The Loves, I would suggest starting with the following tracks which are some of my favourites. You'll find them on i-Tunes, from Fortuna Pop or possibly eBay. Their albums are called 'Love', 'Technicolour', 'Three' and 'Love You'.
